Gluten-Free Oat Bread

What are the benefits of making your own bread? Well it's as easy as 5 ingredients that you probably already have in your kitchen and you know exactly what's going into it. It's also really cheap and so easy to make.

Oats are incredibly nutritious containing lots of fibre thereby they help to lower cholesterol. They can feed our gut bacteria so that we can properly absorb the good nutrients from our foods. They can also control our blood sugar levels so we don't get any energy crash throughout the day and they are also very filling which can help with weight control.

Here's a recipe for my favourite homemade oat bread.

Oat Bread

Ingredients:

  • 500g soy yogurt

  • 400g gluten free oats

  • 1 tsp bread soda

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1 tbsp soy milk

  • Handful sesame seeds

Method:

  • In a large bowl mix yogurt, 2 yogurt tubs fulls of oats (equivalent to 400g), bread soda, salt, soy milk and an optional handful of sesame seeds

  • Transfer to a greased baking tin, smooth and bake at 160 degrees (fan oven) or 180 degrees (conventional oven) for 45 mins and test with a clean knife. Cook for a little longer if necessary.

  • Remove from the oven and let it sit on a wire rack to cool for a half hour to an hour.

  • When fully cool, cut and enjoy with your favourite toppings or serve on the side of my hearty lentil soup.
